Sir — This refers to the article, “The engine of growth needs to gain steam” (February 11) by Rajesh Singh. The solution to the poor quality of food served on trains is simple: Provide vegetarian food: Dal, vegetable and rice, and nothing more. The food should be served in clean throw-away containers. The menu should be changed on weekends. It means the same food for seven days.
People can surely survive without non-vegetarian food for a day. Only a fraction of passengers are more than 36-hour travellers. They would rather have wholesome food in place of the non-edibles they are being served. Water is healthy. Soda causes health problem, so the latter should not be served.
