Sir — This refers to the editorial, “OROP mustn’t hang fire” (August 18). On the 2014 Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that one-rank-one-pension would be implemented. But it is still to see the light of the day. The promise was first made in 2013 at the Rewari rally, after Mr Modi was declared the NDA’s prime ministerial candidate,
It is imperative for Mr Modi to give a deadline for the implementation of the OROP. Or else, the Opposition will use the issue to attack the Government. Also, rumour has it that some disgruntled defence personnel may dampen the NDA’s chances of winning the Bihar poll if there’s no progress on the OROP.
