Sir — This refers to the article, “When the system worked to save a life” (April 1) by K Aravamu-dhan. It was heartening to read this report. One wishes that the media highlights such human interest stories and news reports in their publications and news channels more often.
One is certain that even if a single newspaper or a news channel changes its policy so as to bring feel-good news items to the forefront, it will give rise to a virtuous circle. That way, we will get to read and hear more about such inspiring stories.
For example, the placement of the report, “T3 gets differently-abled friendly” (April 2) on the front page instead of the inside pages, would have had a more salubrious impact on the readers than even the half-page advertisement on the differently-abled people (Page 3) to mark World Autism Awareness Day.
While one agrees that there has to be a judicious mix of both positive and negative news, more often than not the reader has to contend with less of positive news and more reportage on scams, frauds, rape, arson and petty squabbles of political leaders and parties. As a result, positive and soul-stirring reports often go unnoticed.
