This refers to the editorial, “Better late than never” (December 24). It was heartening to see that the juvenile justice Bill was passed in Parliament. This law was essential to instil the ‘fear of law’ in the mind of potential juvenile criminals.
However, the passage of this Bill should not be seen as a retributive action, as it addresses the grey areas of law that cannot be exploited with impunity. At the same time, new opportunities for reforms need to be explored and social structures need to be put in place so that the delinquents are not further pushed down the road of crime.
