Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Rahul Gandhi’s failures” (October 22). Perhaps the strategy, purportedly laid by election strategist Prashant Kishor, has led to the first major casualty. In her exit, Rita Bahuguna Joshi exposed the fragile underbelly of the Congress in India’s most populous State.
A cursory look at Joshi’s Twitter timeline will convince anyone that, although hailing from a family of rich political heritage, her USP has been rhetoric-laden speeches and statements. From accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of orchestrating the 2002 violence to giving a virtual clean chit to Ishrat Jahan, Joshi had toed the line set by the Congress’s first family for decades, dedicatedly. Hence, her excuse of getting disenchanted by Rahul Gandhi’s comments, post Uri attack, sound contrived and disingenuous.
