EU has snubbed India on many past occasions

BB

This refers to the article, “Europe left out of Modi's Euro-tour” (April 24) by Mayuri Mukherjee. The European Union's various institutions have never lost an opportunity to humiliate India. The European Parliament has hardly missed an any occasion to project India in bad light. The European Commission, and the European Parliament, have often used the issue of human rights as a stick to beat India, even when this country has been battling terror in various forms.

Around 30 years ago, the EU banned India's export of consumables, which it considered hazardous, and its sale and consumption within Europe. But the EU exported similar hazards to India and other Third World countries. The EU further threatened those countries with consequences if they refused to download the shipments. These are double standards. This doesn't mean that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should not visit Brussels; it's only that heavens haven't fallen that he didn't, during his recent tri-nation tour.
