Sir — This refers to the news report, “Homilies repeated, nothing special in li-Singh talks” (May 21).
We are told that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh talked ‘tough’ with the visiting Chinese Premier, but that is mere rhetoric in the absence of concrete results. China has given us no assurance that its Army will not breach the line of Actual Control, and will wait for a peaceful resolution of the border dispute.
It is unfortunate that we are still obsessed with diplomatic niceties, which began during former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s era and has not changed till date, despite our many unpleasant experiences with Beijing. The recent incursion by the Chinese Army in ladakh should wake the Indian leadership from its slumber.
