Election race

Isha Shah

This refers to the editorial, “Hand holding sickleIJ” (February 11). The Congress and the left have been relegated to the margins by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s tide of Ma-Mati-Manush. There are little chances for them to gain ground in West Bengal.

The BJP, on the other hand, can make inroads into Ms Banerjee’s vote-bank, but it’s unlikely to cause significant harm to the Trinamool Congress, which is poised to win.

A Congress-left combine can be electorally counter-productive for both. Fighting the West Bengal election on their own might help them salvage some pride.
