This refers to the article, “In the true teachers' footsteps” (August 28) by JS Rajput. To make a good building, good quality material is required and a skilled mason too is needed. Similarly, for good education, a skilled teacher is imperative. A teacher is the one, who can make his disciple perfect by imparting good education. To paraphrase, a teacher is the builder of the society. Today, S Radhakrishnan is held in the highest esteem on account of his exemplary contribution to the field of education.
Indian tradition of ‘vigorous pursuit of knowledge with multiple shades' is universally recognised and appreciated and the cause was championed by the likes of S Radhakrishnan, Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore and Syed Ahmad Khan. I concur with the author that we have enacted the Right to Education Act, but its implementation looks pathetic. It is, therefore, incumbent upon the education policymakers to understand the idea and incorporate it for providing a level-playing field for all without any discrimination.
