Sir — This refers to the editorial, “GDP in need of botox” (September 22). The downward slide of India’s growth rate is a matter of concern. Following the twin shocks of demonetisation and the introduction of Goods and Services Tax, temporary setbacks to the economy were expected, but with buoyant hopes of recovery over a period of time.
With the Ministry of Finance now caught up in the web of prolonged weaknesses, further hampering job creation — not to mention the spiralling oil and food prices that directly hurt the common (wo)man, it remains to be seen whether the decline in gross domestic product rate can be adequately arrested, failing which, it could turn into a major bottleneck for the National Democratic Alliance dispensation ahead of the 2019 election.
