Double morale-booster for the West Indians

Azhar A Khan

This refers to the editorial, “Calypso's back in cricket” (April 5). West Indies’ sensational last-over win in the final clash of the 2016 T20 World Cup Cricket tournament and a similar victory in the Women T20 championship against Australia, is a double dose of morale-boosting for West Indian cricket. It is also reminiscent of the times when West Indies earned the ‘invincible’ title, with the likes of Viv Richards, Malcolm Marshall, Clive lloyd, Andy Roberts and Michael Holding at the helm and at the pinnacle of their career.

The editorial hits the nail on the head by suggesting that the West Indies Cricket Board must take care of its squad and do its level best to stem internal bickering, stemming from some funds-crunch related issue, that was evident from the comments made by team captain Darren Sammy at the post-match Press conference. At the end of the day, West Indians got what they deserved. Each and every player gave his best to clinch the coveted title.
