The appointment of former Gujarat Home Minister Amit Shah clearly reflects the fact that BJP president Rajnath Singh is serious about the party’s performance in Uttar Pradesh in the next lok Sabha poll.
No doubt, the party’s performance in this State is crucial. But at the same time, it is also true that lack of better coordination among the party cadre as well as factionalism are major roadblocks to the party’s revival. It can be hoped now that Mr Shah’s organisational skills will make the party a united force in the State. If the BJP announces Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as its prime ministerial candidate, it will be a double bonanza for the party in Uttar Pradesh.
