Divisive UPA

Jl Ganjoo

Sir — This refers to the article, “Minority appeasement is a blot on secularism” (October 21) by Joginder Singh. The Union Government is captive to its own predilections and prejudices in believing that dialogue alone and not strong action can resolve issues with Pakistan. Talks have proved to be counter-productive. But the Congress-led regime is unwilling to blame the Pakistani establishment for repeated cross-border terrorism.

The UPA’s only agenda seems to stay in office through abuse of power, especially by using the Central Bureau of Investigation against its adversaries and introducing controversial legislation like the communal violence Bill, that targets only members of the majority community in communal flare-ups.

Politics under the Congress-led regime has become a series of perversions of thought and deeds. It was a similar perversion that in the 1980s created militancy, first in Punjab, and then in Jammu & Kashmir, to the extent that J&K has ultimately become a battleground, with the Kashmiri Pandits hounded out of their homeland. By all indications, the UPA rulers are least bothered about safeguarding national borders and ensuring the country’s sovereignty. For them, the politics of dividing the nation on the basis of religion and caste is above national issues. let us not expect anything from this regime except divisive tactics.
