Letter to the Editor

Discomfort shows

Vinod C Dixit

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Congress over-reaction”(February 11). Prime Minister Narendra Modi should be congratulated for challenging the basic rules of politics. He rightly tore into the Congress and took on his predecessor Manmohan Singh, who had described demonetisation as “organised loot and legalised plunder”. In saying that “the art of bathing in a bathroom with a raincoat on” is known only to the former Prime Minister, Modi told the truth.

There is no doubt, Manmohan Singh had helped the Indian economy to reach its current state and we must respect him for that. But it’s also true that every Indian knew that the former Prime Minister headed a corrupt regime and could nothing about it,

All are aware that Manmohan Singh, who is credited with the resurrection of the Indian economy as Finance Minister in PV Narasimha Rao’s Government at the onset of the 1990s, lost much of his credibility when he chose to be a puppet in the hands of Congress president Sonia Gandhi. After the devaluation of 1992, mainly during Congress rule, because of high corruption, black money, inflation etc; property prices, daily living expenses and education expenses have sky-rocketed. The Congress is not serious about safeguarding the future of India’s economy. In reality, theCongress has no viable replies to offer. Modi has rightly said, “If they breach decorum, they should have courage to listen to the response as well.”
