Sir — This refers to the editorial, “What after roll-backIJ” (March 10). Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has done well to roll back a Budget proposal to tax 60 per cent of the Employees’ Provident Fund amount. It is not the Government who should decide how a person should use his/her PF amount.
Taxing on terminal benefits is totally unfair. Such a democratic form of governance should continue so that changes do not take long to implement and the public also has a greater say in how they should be governed. Our tax base should be stretched without further burdening the existing class of taxpayers, who are mostly Government employees.
