Defending honesty

Bal Govind

Sir — This refers to the report, “CBI probe or will kill selves: Ravi’s family” (March 19). It is not for the first time that a public servant has lost his life for being honest. We know what happened to Manjunath and Satyendra Dubey. Both of them paid for their honest deeds with their lives. Sadly, justice has not been given to them until now. The same fate could await DK Ravi as well. Honest public servants are a rare breed in our society. Hence, we need to protect them to encourage integrity in public life.

If we really want to see the much-needed changes in our society, we cannot allow the culprits to go free, however highly positioned they may be. I do not think a probe into Ravi’s death by the local CID will fetch us results. The Karnataka Government needs to hand over this case to the Central Bureau of Investigation without any delay.
