Decisive election

Bal Govind

Sir — This refers to the article, “It’s the worst of times; the best is to come” (March 6) by Gautam Mukherjee. It is said that before good times come, we have to go through some hard moments.

In the same manner, after having endured the pathetic and most corrupt 10-year rule of the Congress-led UPA regime, the people of this country deserve to have better days ahead under the leadership of a strong and decisive leader like Mr Narendra Modi. The author is right in saying that Congress leaders have realised that the charisma of the Nehru-Gandhi family is on the wane, as the party has been losing election after State election under the leadership of Ms Sonia Gandhi and Mr Rahul Gandhi.

Of course, a weak India suits best for world powers such as the US. But a weak India does not augur well for us because we will further go down under the burden of growing fiscal and current account deficits, and growth and opportunities will be hard to come by.

Hence, the crux of the matter is that, as has rightly been pointed out by BJP’s Delhi leader Harsh Vardhan some time ago, it is a matter of life and death for the party. And the BJP does not have any other option but to gain from strength to strength and deliver a knock-out punch to the Congress.
