Sir — This refers to the article, “Idea whose time has come, messed up” (March 29) by Ashok Malik. A data protection Act on the lines of one in Scandinavia, with sincere enforcement, should be available for all to see. Our state agencies have an asymmetrical advantage of information over the citizens. If intelligence agencies can illegally snoop on high-profile personalities, what are the guarantees for ordinary citizensIJ
The main flaw even in a well-designed framework (which India does not have, given its poor enforcement practices) is that any data accessed by the agency insider is not visible to the data owner.
