Sir — This refers to the article, “From Varanasi, Modi will rejuvenate India” (May 6) by Sandhya Jain. Kashi is said to be the oldest settled city. Any Hindu who is aspiring to be ‘modern’ is not keen on not having any emotional bond with the land’s Hindu landmarks or its ruin.
Uttar Pradesh does not stop untreated sewage from flowing into the river (the practice is same all over the sub-continent). A country should have a minimum of prosperity, some shared culture etc. But, nothing as such exists in India. It is scrounging for necessitates for most and insolent power for a few. Some ethical values are needed to make improvements.
