This refers to the reports, “We need unity like Quit India days: PM” (August 10) and “Forces of darkness trying to destroy democracy: Sonia” (August 10). The contrast between two mindsets is colossal. Here is Prime Minister Narendra Modi calling for national unity on the 75th anniversary of the Quit India Movement to eradicate poverty, corruption, illiteracy, casteism etc whereas, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, speaking after the current Prime Minister in the lok Sabha, repeats her party's familiar propaganda line against the Modi Government about the BJP undermining “secular, democratic and liberal values”.
The Nehru-Gandhi dynasty is known for destroying democracy during the Emergency period, imposed by Indira Gandhi. Sonia Gandhi has been holding the post of the party's president for nearly two decades now and has appointed her son, Rahul Gandhi, as the party’s vice president without any consultation from members. No wonder, the grand old party is now reduced to being the second largest party in the upper House. Sonia Gandhi’s own associates, like Congress leader Jairam Ramesh have been advising her to introspect. But she clearly finds it easier to accuse the ruling party for all the ills.
