Congress skeletons

PN Saxena

Sir — This is with reference to the editorial, “Suspicious from the start” (October 8). How many skeletons will come out of the closet of the Congress’s first familyIJ One will have to wait for some more time to see them all.

First came the Bofors scandal wherein Ottavio Quattrocchi escaped the law in India. He also succeeded in holding on to his ill-gotten Bofors booty. Then came the National Herald case wherein the first family allegedly misappropriated the assets of a prestigious but now closed-down newspaper, for its vested interests. The case is being pursued by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, and is pending in the court.

Now, the Congress president’s son-in-law is allegedly raking in the moolah with the help of a powerful party loyalist, the Chief Minister of Haryana. The dubious deal between Mr Robert Vadra and real estate major DlF has been regularised in a horrible hurry, since loss of power at the Centre, and possibly in the State in a few days from now, would have made it difficult for the Congress to protect Mr Vadra’s interests.
