Congress bigwigs now have no place to hide

Ganapathi Bhat

This refers to the editorial, “Disregard for the truth” (April 27). The truth has finally prevailed. The high and the mighty of the Congress are now in a soup, following the Milan court’s judgement. All along, the UPA Government tried its best to put the lid on the AgustaWestland case by blocking investigations. But a change in Government seems to have shattered all hopes of the politicians and officials involved in the murky deal.

When the then Defence Minister AK Antony admitted to money having changed hands, there was a lurking suspicion that the tallest leaders in the Congress were the beneficiaries of the deal. The worst fear has now com true, and all those involved have no place to hide. That 12 helicopters were said to be purchased at the repeated insistence of Congress president Sonia Gandhi should send the party's legal eagles into a huddle. The onus is now on the NDA Government to leave no stone unturned and cooperate with Italy to book all perpetrators of the deal.
