Common curriculum

Bal Govind

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “The NEET conundrum” (September 7). It was heart breaking to see a 17-year-old aspiring medicine student from Tamil Nadu, S Anitha, committing suicide after the Supreme Court ruled against her petition. But politicising this issue, and demanding cancellation of National Eligibility-cum Entrance Test (NEET) is not justified.

The NEET was instituted to bring in more transparency. What is needed is a debate over having same syllabus across the country and education boards to give a level-playing field to all students. Moreover, when we can have one nation one tax, why can’t we have a common syllabus across StatesIJ
