This refers to the editorial, “New limited surrogacy” (August 26). The Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill is welcome. Commercial surrogacy is nothing short of slavery. A woman, after carrying a baby in the womb and nurturing it with her own lifeblood, then has to let it go for financial gains in this brute world. This is a nasty violation of the natural order.
Will those who speak in favour of commercial surrogacy now start a movement for the marketing of human organsIJ Even a brute feels the pain of a woman who has to stay apart from the child she gave birth to. Quite justifiably, a mother is referred to as garbhadharini janani in acknowledgement of her toil in motherhood.
There is no doubt that the very concept of commercial surrogacy is an insult to motherhood and to humanity. The Modi Government should be thanked for its efforts to end this business.
