This refers to the article, “Scrambling hard for the Dalit vote-bank” (April 15) by Kalyani Shankar. BR Ambedkar was a true patriot and the way he carved out a system to ensure participation of crores of deprived and depressed sections in national life, is priceless. He wanted to bind humanity.
However, the stark reality is that our leaders are not doing enough for his cause. Bound by the shackles of the caste system, we have failed to emulate the ideals of social justice.
Dalits are maltreated, manual scavenging is still an occupation for them in many parts of the country. Paying tribute to Ambedkar can be done by working towards eliminating the caste system and alleviating the status of Dalits.
