Letter to the Editor

Callous, irresponsible

Nimai Charan Swain

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Road for national good” (October 17). China’s objection to the proposed road linking Tawang to Vijaynagar which is in the Indian territory, is preposterous. India should have constructed the road when China began infrastructure development in proximity or contiguous the McMahon line. India was apathetic in spite of warnings by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Soon after the 1962 war, due to the unilateral ceasefire by the Chinese, India took no steps to construct roads and render essential infrastructural development. Was it not the craven abdication of vital responsibility by the Congress Government headed by Jawaharlal NehruIJ
