Callous conduct

MC Joshi

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Politics over a tragedy” (April 24). The suicide by Gajendra Singh Kalyanwat, a farmer from Rajasthan, at a pro-farmer rally organised by the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi, is a blot on our political system. The man climbed a tree near the dais and remained there for quite some time before he hanged himself. He was probably waiting for an intervention by the AAP leaders. AAP leaders have accused  Delhi Police, and didn’t forget to remind that the police reported to the Union Government.

Gajendra Singh Kalyanwat’s conduct should have alerted the AAP leaders. Party volunteers could have brought him down alive. Instead, the leaders remained unmoved and speeches continued even when Kalyanwat’s body was hanging from the tree.
