Sir — An expert-committee chaired by economist lK Jha, set up by the Centre to suggest the feasibility of adopting a new financial year, had suggested that the calendar-year of January to December should replace the current financial year system of April-March. This will have multiple advantages and be in tune with most other countries of the world. But, as usual, the recommendations were dumped by the then political rulers.
It is time that both the financial and the working year be unified. The calendar year should replace the present financial year, a British legacy which the country has continued even 67 years after independence.
