Bogus secularism

Nimai Charan Swain

Sir — This refers to the report, “Cong spews venom against Modi on Nehru event eve” (November 14). Mr Rahul Gandhi’s remark, that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is “spreading the poison of communalism in the country”, was irresponsible. Ms Sonia Gandhi’s statement that “had Nehru been alive, he would have asked the Congress to fight communalism”, was directed at the Bharatiya Janata Party and Mr Modi.

Have these two leaders forgotten the 1984 massacre of Sikhs by marauding mobs on the streets of Delhi led by prominent Congress leadersIJ The then Congress Government headed by Rajiv Gandhi was lackadaisical in its response to the incident. During the general election of 2014, Ms Gandhi, desperate for communal votes, requested Muslim cleric Imam Bukhari  to direct Muslim voters in Delhi to support the Congress. Is this the secularism the Congress believes inIJ
