This refers to the article “Reaching out, but without appeasing” (August 22) by Gautam Mukherjee. Hard hit by corruption and increasing inflation, the aam aadmi is understandably angry with the Congress and is most likely go for a change. That ‘change' could be the Bharatiya Janata Party. Unfortunately, the BJP-led NDA doesn't seem capable of winning enough seats with its existing voter-base, which needs to be expanded, especially in Uttar Pradesh. The pathetic state of the economy, policy paralysis and the coalition compulsions of the Congress-led UPA regime lend credence to the feeling that a coalition Government at the Centre is not in the country's interest.
The BJP must reach out to all sections of the electorate and convince the Muslims that it pursues the policy of justice to all, appeasement to none. Senior party leaders have given that clarion call, and if the BJP rank and file join hands on that, much electoral dividend could result.
