This refers to the report, “Students of other varsities throng to DU to foment stir” (March 1). The report has made a mention of acclaimed lyricist-writer Javed Akhtar’s reaction to cricketer Virendra Sehwag and wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt’s remarks on Gurmehar Kaur’s statement that “Pakistan did not kill my father, war did it”.
It was beyond belief that a person of Akhtar’s sensibility would arrogantly dismiss them as “hardly literate”. Obviously, for him, whatever communist-affiliated students did or said against their opponents — the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad — was acceptable and legitimate.
The lyricist had no problem with the anti-Indian slogans shouted at the Jawaharlal Nehru University last year. This is why Akhtar and his co-thinkers said nothing against the lefts, the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party, which assembled at the Delhi University campus to patronise the students.
