This refers to the article, “Opportunities galore for disabled” (April 25) by Archana Jyoti. Though a lot has been done by the Government and various voluntary organisations for the welfare of the disabled, there is a long way to go. More needs to be done.
First, the society’s perception towards the differently-abled needs to change. People and organisations should realise that they are normal human beings and one among us. We must not discriminate.
Second, employment and vocational avenues for the disabled must open up and they should be given equal opportunity to participate in all activities of life. Some disabled people, with their unique talent, have done exceptionally well in life and shown the world to move from ‘disability’.
