Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Bengal in flames again” (July 8). Communal violence in Basirhat of North 24 Paraganas district, West Bengal is really deplorable and disgraceful incident. The lackadaisical attitude of police forces of the State is responsible for the intensifying violence. Many shops and properties of small businessmen have been burnt down and even some Hindus took refuge in the neighbouring houses.
