Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Blair, Bush and blunders” (July 8). The Chilkot report has exposed both the US and the UK. The disregard of international law and bodies, by the then UK Government, in its joint-invasion into Iraq with the US, must be condemned in the strongest possible terms.
The Iraq war has vitiated the whole geopolitical climate of West Asia. It gave the necessary impetus for the birth of the Islamic State and other warring factions. Moreover, the report points to the fact that peaceful diplomacy and economic sanctions must be the primary options to undertake before initiating any armed invasion into a foreign land. The UK must stop being a global lieutenant of the US, and start acting like an independent global power.
