Sir — This refers to the Supreme Court making hard observations with regard to wrongful activities including spot-fixing, betting and conflict of interest involving the supreme bosses of Indian cricket and their relations. Earlier, the Justice Mukul Mudgal committee report had established the shameful conduct of people appointed by the BCCI to probe the infamous IPl fixing. The BCCI-appointed panel had given a clean chit to the tainted, including Mr N Srinivasan.
It is unfortunate that, despite so much happening in Indian cricket, the Union Government has been maintaining a deafening silence and not taking steps to make the BCCI and other State-level cricket bodies accountable under the Right to Information Act. The Supreme Court should transfer all court cases pleading for making BCCI a public-authority under the RTI Act, to itself for a final decision. Making the BCCI and its other affiliated outfits accountable under the RTI Act will make their working transparent and accountable, and impose an effective check on them, thus reducing chances of irregularities.
