This refers to the editorial, “Making the enemy pay” (May 4). People’s anger and call for teaching Pakistan a lesson following the killing of Indian soldiers by Pakistani soldiers, is a natural reaction. Our soldiers are being killed by the Pakistan Army/terrorists almost on a daily basis. It is time for us to move beyond the muhtod jawab diya jayega declarations. Military options, whether it is surgical strikes or low intensity conflicts, is the Army’s business, which should be given a free-hand to deal with the enemy in a befitting manner.
The Union Government must do what is long overdue. Instead of looking towards the US it must bring a resolution in Parliament, which is sure to be adopted unanimously, and declare Pakistan a terrorist state. The Most Favoured Nation status granted unilaterally to Islamabad must be withdrawn. Commercial, trade, sports, and all other ties must be kept on hold. Revision of the Indus Water Treaty must be explored and the status of the Pakistani diplomatic mission in India must be downgraded.
