Army officer's sacrifice should not go in vain

Ramesh G Jethwani

The brutal killing of young lt Ummer Fayaz exposes the dastardly nature of terrorism, as he was not even posted in Kashmir, nor had participated in any anti-terrorism operation against terrorists there. Only a few days back, Pakistan Army killed and beheaded two Indian security personnel, which triggered outrage across the country. lt Ummer Fayaz had come to his native place in Kashmir to attend the wedding of his relative, when he was abducted by terrorists and killed — and act of cowardice. He was a good sportsman and had participated in many tournaments. The nation shares the grief of the family and stands in solidarity with the bereaved family in this hour of tragedy.

It is unfortunate that this killing seems to intimidate people and discourage young people from joining the Armed Forces/security forces. Sacrifice of lt  Ummer Fayaz will not go in vain and it will continue to inspire young Kashmiri youth to join the Armed Forces and fight terrorists more vigorously.
