Sir — If the decisive victory over Pakistan helped the Indian cricket team to gain confidence, the comprehensive win against South Africa has come as a tonic for the defending champion. The Indian team also broke the jinx against South Africa in the World Cup. Though it outsmarted South Africa in all departments of the game, its fantastic fielding proved a major difference between the two countries.
But the failure in hard-hitting in the slog overs in matches against both Pakistan and South Africa, is a chink in the Indian team’s armour. Amassing runs in slog overs generally holds the key in close contests. The Indian team will have to focus on this weakness.
