Arjun's turn

Ganapathi Bhat

Sir — Arjun Tendulkar, son of former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, has expectedly been chosen to represent India in the under-19 tour of Sri lanka for two four-day matches. Junior Tendulkar has a strong pedigree; but whether he possessed the requisite credentials to break into a group generally considered a stepping stone for something big, is debatable. Said to regularly hit the 135 km/hour mark, the 18-year-old’s success hinges on how well he handles pressure of being the son of a legendary father. Of late, India has had no tearing left-arm-medium or fast bowlers who can unnerve the batsmen with their guile. If the young man clicks, nothing like it. But if he falters, its time for others.
