Sir — This refers to the Sushma Swaraj-lalit Modi fiasco. If the Indian Premier league provided entertainment to millions of cricket enthusiasts, the tale of Ms Sushma Swaraj and a tainted Mr lalit Modi (perhaps the first hint of a ‘scandal’ in the Modi regime) is providing enough ammunition to the anti-Modi brigade to fire at the Government. Only last month, the BJP was patting itself for a ‘corruption-free’ record .
What is jarring is that, as leader of Opposition, Ms Swaraj had scolded the UPA regime for molly-coddling Mr lalit Modi. And now, as External Affairs Minister, she has personally interceded on his behalf, even if on humanitarian grounds. This was not only improper but uncalled for. Surely, she owes the nation an apology, at the very least.
