This refers to the editorial, “Premature accusations” (January 21). It is unfortunate that the death of a young Dalit scholar, Rohith Vemula, has become a battleground for politics. Due to the political intervention of Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, a dispassionate analysis of the sequence of events has now become difficult.
As a first step, the scholar’s suicide note must be analysed. As his letter said, he had no complaints against any one, he had problems with himself. Clearly, this is no Dalit versus non-Dalit issue.
