Letter to the Editor

Amounting irregularities

Sagar Singh

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Epidemic in education” (June 10). It is saddening that toppers of the Bihar School Examination Board do not even know the basics of the subjects they topped in. The Bihar Government did well to make sure that the toppers appear for a re-tested. However, the result of the re-examination is on expected lines. Each of them drew a blank in English and abysmally low in other subjects. On the other hand, the topper in Humanities did not even sit for the re-test.

The editorial has rightly given the example of Uttar Pradesh where former Chief Minister Kalyan Singh pushed for an anti-copying law, which applied stern brakes on any kind of unfair means, but his successor Mulayam Singh Yadav abolished the anti-copying law which allowed mass copying and thereby led to an increase in pass percentage.
