Sir — This has reference to the article, “Brand Amma is not stale as yet” (October 27) by Kumar Chellappan. The writer has depicted the actual picture on the ground in Tamil Nadu. Former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s solid image and incredible influence, despite her past political upheavals and recent conviction in the disproportionate assets case, has not waned. She still controls the levers of power in the State.
Undoubtedly, no other political leader in the country can boast of deriving the prominence and loyalty that she continues to enjoy as a charismatic leader, especially after the introduction of many welfare schemes in the State.
Moreover, since the Opposition DMK stands shattered because of internal feuds and family conflicts, there is no threat to Jayalalithaa and her AIADMK. Her party is in an invincible position because even the Congress has been marginalised there.
