This refers to the editorial “Criminal callousness” (April 2). The editorial has rightly called for accountability. Collapse of flyovers, bridges, buildings, roads and canals are common across the country, and precious lives are lost.
Both the Trinamool Congress and IVRCl are responsible for this incident. They could have been vigilant, especially when the project was located in a densely-populated area like Burrabazar.
The fact is that the TMC was in a rush to complete the project. Moreover, the project failed to meet several deadlines. Why did West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee not take note of the dangerous situation that was visible even to a laymanIJ A portion of the bridge was seen hanging perilously. This was a warning of the impending danger in a highly vulnerable spot.
