Sir — This refers to the news report, “Advani adamant, BJP pleads” (June 11). BJP patriarch lK Advani’s resignation from party posts has created a flutter in political circles. Though the stated reason for his resignation is his ‘unhappiness’ over the functioning and direction of the party, the sudden provocation appears to be the elevation of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as head of the Election Campaign Committee, much against Mr Advani’s wishes.
But why is Mr Advani so opposed to his former protégéIJ If he is still nursing the ambition of becoming the Prime Minister, he should have disclosed it for deliberation by and consideration of the party. In the interests of the party, he must graciously accept the popular vote in favour of Mr Modi.
