AAP should admit failure to check dengue spread

Shreyans Jain

This refers to the editorial, “Administrative apathy” (September 17). The dengue outbreak has become a menace in the national capital, leading to the loss of innocent lives every year. Poor sanitation, pathetic healthcare system, inadequate public awareness campaign and Government apathy have resulted in the spread of this tropical disease, which could have otherwise been prevented. Instead of adding political colour to the crisis, the Aam Aadmi Party’s Government should acknowledge its administrative failure and lack of timely intervention in preventing the outbreak.

It should not waste time and must ensure the adoption of sanitation measures through a massive public awareness campaign, scientific waste management, penalty for offenders responsible for stagnant water at their premises, and fumigation. Hospitals, both public and private, should be obliged to treat cases of dengue on priority. People need to embrace the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan in a healthy spirit to complement the efforts of the Modi Government.
