Sir — This refers to the article, “The meek do not inherit the earth” (May 4) by Hiranmay Karlekar.
The Congress-led UPA Government has lost all face and needs to introspect. It has failed the people and made a laughing stock of this nation. It has to apologise for bringing disrepute to the country, both at national and international forums, with its numerous scams, irregularities, poor governance and failure to counter threats and take on challenges. A case in point is the recent brazen incursion by China into our territory in ladakh and the Government’s feeble response to the issue.
The entire neighbourhood is simmering with anti-India sentiment and the Government has done little to rectify the situation. There is a need to revamp and strengthen our foreign policy vis-à-vis hostile China and Pakistan and friendly countries in the neighbourhood such as Bangladesh and Sri lanka —whom we have let down by not supporting them adequately — and the Maldives and Nepal who view us more as a foe than a friend.
Rather than bend over backwards to please our Western and European audience, the UPA regime should have made an attempt to stand firm on national interests, security, integrity and credibility. The time has come to get rid of this least ‘progressive alliance’ in the forthcoming general election.
