A fighting force sadly beset by infighting

This refers to the article, “An open war within the party with a difference” (June 7) by Kalyani Shankar.

True, it is not to the BJP's advantage to project a disunited front ahead of an Assembly or the lok Sabha poll as this will send a wrong signal to the electorate, but the damage has already been done. Still, the party must strive to portray itself as an organisation of unity, conviction and selfless service that is primarily concerned with the welfare of the common man. Also, the BJP needs to resolve its internal crisis, especially if it wishes to emerge as a strong and resolute alternative to the incumbent regime.

Senior leaders of the party will do well to refrain from making statements that convey the impression that all is not well with the party. Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi too must not always make his State the focal point of his discussions and speeches. Instead, he must present a blueprint detailing his plans on how he will shape a strong and resurgent India.
