Letter to the Editor

A difficult choice

R Narayanan

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Third front is a chimera” (May 30). Both the Congress and the BJP are short of being truly great national parties.

If one is tainted, the other is trying to find firm feet. As a result, other parties are lured into dreaming of a free run. It is possible that the other smaller parties will be able to increase their individual tallies, but it would require a dozen of them to come together on a common platform and form a stable Government, without the two major national parties.

In the ultimate analysis, the lead role will have to be taken by either the BJP or the Congress. The TINA factor works so well in India. The Karnataka electorate made its choice recently —whether by compulsion or wisdom, remains to be seen. The national voter too will take his considered call, come 2014.
