A combination of old and new works best

Azhar A Khan

This refers to the editorial, “SP’s desperate strategy” (October 10). Divergence of views between the old and the new guard is a healthy symptom. The common thread, however, is the betterment of the party. As regards the rift in the first family of Uttar Pradesh, the ruling regime has seen some bizarre developments — the re-induction of Amar Singh, the announced merger of Samajwadi Party-Quami Ekta Dal, the expulsion of some party cadres and re-instatement of a sacked Minister at the cost of peace in the party, that culminated in a face-off between chacha-bhatija.

It augurs well that the members in the Yadav clan, as well as of the ruling party, have confidence in patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, whose call on such matters is reckoned as final. Moreover, the new zeal of the young blood and guidance, coming from the old guard, is the finest combination for a successful party. Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has left no stone unturned to deliver the goods he promised during the 2012 Assembly poll.
